Chesterfield was originally established in 1873 by the DRUMMOND tobacco company in Mississippi. In the 1960s, the Liggett & Myers company acquired the Chesterfield brand. In 1999, Liggett sold Liggett & Myers, transferring the Chesterfield brand to the original Philip Morris company. After the spin-off of Philip Morris International in early 2008, the brand became a shared brand between Altria and Philip Morris International.
