茂大雪茄 traces its origins back to the Yichang Maoda Tobacco Leaf Manufacturing Company established in 1899. Renowned for its exceptional quality, it not only captured the hearts of the Chinese people, becoming the only domestic brand that could rival foreign cigarettes at the time, but also found its way to markets in Japan and the United States. After the Maoda Tobacco Leaf Manufacturing Company ceased operations in 1901, the craftsmanship of Maoda cigars continued to be passed down through the community. In 2003, Wuhan Tobacco (Group) Co., Ltd. collaborated with British American Tobacco to jointly develop high-end Maoda cigars.

茂大雪茄源于1899年的宜昌茂大卷烟叶制造所。茂大雪茄以其优良的品质不但赢得国人的心，成为当时唯一与洋烟较衡的国货，更远销日本和美国。茂大卷烟叶制造所1901年停业后，茂大雪茄烟的工艺制造技术流传于民间。2003年，武汉烟草（集团）有限公司与英美烟草公司合作，共同开发茂大高档雪茄烟。
