The Feima (飞马) brand of cigarettes originally emerged as a military supply product from the old liberated areas. In July 1949, to overcome difficulties, the Shanghai State-owned Zhonghua Tobacco Company adopted the Feima trademark from the old liberated areas, promoting it as a "famous cigarette from the liberated zones." They reformed the original Feima cigarette formula, primarily using Xuchang tobacco leaves with Qingzhou tobacco as a supplement, crafting a flavor that embodies the "Shanghai style." In 1951, a total of 39,367 boxes were produced, with sales reaching 38,840 boxes. In early 1953, the Zhonghua Tobacco Company merged with the State-owned Shanghai Tobacco Company, and the Shanghai Cigarette Factories No. 2, No. 3, and No. 5 began producing this brand of cigarettes simultaneously. Soon after, it was pointed out that the winged Pegasus on the Feima trademark was an absurd myth, leading to a redesign featuring a galloping Pegasus against a backdrop of industrial and agricultural development, symbolizing the leap forward of China's socialist construction. From 1958 to 1960, the Shanghai Cigarette Factories No. 5 and No. 3 transitioned to other operations, while the Shanghai Cigarette Factory continued to produce Feima cigarettes. From 1984 to 1992, the production volume reached 485,000 boxes.
